Sophie Strony, 77, of James Street, Olyphant, died Friday morning at the VNA Hospice Unit at Commumity Medical Center. She was the widow of Stephen "Lefty" who died in 1993.
Born in Dickson City, daughter of the late Valentine and Sophia Lisiak Menago Borek, she lived in Olyphant since her marriage. She attended Dickson City public schools and before retirement was employed by Baumel Dress Factory, Olyphant, as a seamstress. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Olyphant, and its Altar Rosary Society.
Surviving are a daughter, Rose Mary Kovalchik, Olyphant; a son, Stephen, Bardonia, NY; a brother, Stanley Menago, Frederick, MD; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Kurusko and three brothers: John, Edward and Louis Menago.
Funeral will be held Monday at 8:30AM from the Hudak-O'Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant with mass at 9:30AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Lincoln St., Olyphant to be celebrated by Rev. Kenneth Kizis, pastor.
Interment in the parish cemetery, Blakely.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9PM with Rosary at 2:15PM.
