Joseph F. Janiga of Nazareth, formerly of Olyphant, died on Tuesday, while running and was pronounced at St. Luke’s Anderson Campus, Easton. His wife is the former Irene Mattavi. They were married for eight years. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Zuzelski Janiga. He was a graduate of Central Catholic, Kingston and Auto Mechanic Tech College; and was employed by International Trucking, UPS from 1973 to 2006 and Martz Trailways from 2006 until his retirement. Joe’s passions were running and camping. He ran the Boston, NYC and Disney marathons, multiple Steamtown marathons and participated in marathons across the country. He also loved restoring old cars. He is also survived by one daughter, Kerriann Moore, husband, Jeffrey of Olyphant; one son, Joseph D. Janiga, partner, Olga Rivenbark of Throop; one step-daughter, Jessica Mattavi of Ballston, Virginia; one step-son, Michael Mattavi, wife, Laura, Schnecksville; one sister Maureen; two grandchildren: Steven and Samantha Kropa. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 9am from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30AM at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant by Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, pastor. Burial will follow at Transfiguration Cemetery, W. Hazelton. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8PM at the funeral home.
