John S. Wanas, 78, of Scott Township died on Friday at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton. His wife of 52 years is the former Mary Ann Parana.
Born in Peckville, he previously resided in Olyphant. His parents were the late John and Stella Kotch Wanas. He was a graduate of Olyphant High School and after graduation served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Scotch Motors, Carbondale and was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant, formerly St. Michael the Archangel.
He is also survived by three daughters: Tina Morgan, Scott Township, Diane LeCates and husband, Corey, Delaware and Lisa Smargiassi and husband, Sean, Scott Township; two sons: David Wanas and Pam, Ohio and Robert Wanas and wife Marilyn, Florida; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one brother, Joseph Wanas and wife, Joan, Archbald and one sister, Elaine Semonich and husband, Stephen, Olyphant; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, John and a grandson, Tyler Morgan.
Mass and viewing will be held at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant by Msgr. Michael J. Delaney.
Both will be by invitation only. Due to COVD-19 restrictions, masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
