John Burns, Sr., 82, of Archbald, formerly of Olyphant, died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital after an illness. His wife was the former Catherine Regan Burns, who died in 1981.
Born in Jessup, son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Dunnigan Burns, he was retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and he had worked for over 20 years at Weston Instruments, Archbald. He was a past president of the Olyphant Little League, a Judge of Elections in Olyphant, and a member of the Olyphant Planning Commission as well as a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant and their Holy Name Society.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry, Sr. of Archbald and John, Jr. of Jessup; two daughters, Betty of Old Greenwich, CT and Peggy Swift of Archbald; a brother Patrick of Johnson City, NY; three sisters, Olive Wilkins and Grace Dick, both of Johnson City, NY and Eleanor Greco of Carbondale; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Callaghan and Peggy Critelli.
The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30AM from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant, with mass at 10AM from St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant to be celebrated by the Reverend Phillip J. Sladicka, pastor.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
