James Edward Gilgallon

James E. Gilgallon, 77, of Olyphant, died on Saturday afternoon at home surrounded by his family. His wife is the former Ceil Fumanti. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on April 19.

Born in Scranton, he was a lifelong resident of Olyphant and the son of the late John and Ann Marie “Nancy” King Gilgallon. He was a graduate of Olyphant High School, class of 1965. He was employed by Mid Valley School District as a maintenance worker with 10 years of service.

Jimmy was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, a lifelong member of Excelsior Hose Company No. 1, American Legion Raymond Henry Post #327 and Kingsbury Masonic Lodge #466, all in Olyphant. He loved to hunt, fish, golf and tinker in his garage. He could fix anything.

He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Albert J. “A. J.” and Gina; a daughter, Elizabeth “Beth”; a grandson, James “J. T.”; a granddaughter, Molly; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Carol, all of Olyphant; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Beth “Bippy” Jones, of Jessup; and Patty and Dan DeLaCruz, of Folsom, Calif.; also, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Gilgallon; and three sisters, Kathy Borowski, Sally Wilmarth and Ann Marie Kurilla.

Mass will begin on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant. The Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor, and Monsignor William F. Glosser, V.F. will officiate.

Interment with committal services will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely with fireman honors by Excelsior Hose Co. No. 1 and military honors.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant, PA 18447.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Drive, Drive 108, Moosic, PA 18507.
