Edward Christopher Smigiel

Edward Christopher Smigiel, 76, of Justus-Scott Township , died on Monday evening at Regional Hospital, Scranton after a brief illness. His wife was the former Michele Jacqueline Dempsey. They were married on August 29, 1975 and celebrated their 47^th anniversary.

Born April 12, 1946 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Kolakowski Smigiel.

A graduate of Riverside High School in 1964, he also graduated from Johnson School of Technology and attended classes at the University of Scranton. He retired from Owens-Illinois, Pittston as a foreman and was also the owner and operator of ECS Specialty as a tool and dye maker.

Ed enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing and skiing and was a member of the Scranton Ski Club. He enjoyed cooking a wide variety of meals for his family, including his delicious desserts. Ed also loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Trish and Joe Phillips, JoAnn and Frank Carito and Susan Ferke for their help and support.

He is survived by a son, Christopher of Moosic and a daughter and son-in-law, Courtney and Gary Ost of Madison, NJ; five grandchildren: Avery and Aiden Ost and Adina, Christopher and Larry Fox; three sisters-in-law: Pat Lou Strong, Mary Fitzmaurice and Sarah Sheridan; a brother-in-law, Robert Hedden; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The graveside funeral blessing and burial will take place on Friday at 10AM at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 6PM at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant, PA.
