Barbara A. Russen, 85, a resident of Scott Twp. for more than 55 years, died Wednesday at Allied Hospice, Scranton. Her husband, Michael S. Russen, died on Dec. 31, 2017. They were married for 58 years.
Born in Scranton to the late John and Helen Rooney Lynott, she was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School, Scranton, and received her bachelor’s degree from Marywood College. Barbara was formerly employed as a medical laboratory technologist at Clinical Laboratories.
Barbara was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant. She was an avid reader who loved doing crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and enjoyed watching the animals on her property. She was a former member of Elmhurst Country Club Ladies’ Golf League.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Suzan, of Scott Twp.; son-in-law, Kevin J. Crowe, of Eagleville; grandchildren, Emily and husband, Dr. Shawn Bifano, of Baltimore, Maryland; Erica Russen; Conor and fiancée, Kate Morris; and Kevin Crowe, all of Philadelphia; and Martin Crowe, of Eagleville; a brother-in-law, Jack Russen and his wife, Joan; a goddaughter, Michele Craft; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kyra L. Crowe, who died May 1, 2012; and her son, Michael J., who died May 21, 2018.
Mass will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant, with the Rev. Scott P. Sterowski, pastor, officiating. Interment will be private in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
Friends may call on Saturday, 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers at the family’s request, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Center Foundation, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
