Alice Marie Comonie

Alice Marie Comonie, 72, of Olyphant, died on Thursday at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton after a sudden illness. She is survived by her husband, Leonard Comonie Jr. They would have celebrated their 51st anniversary on June 24.

Born in Carbondale, she resided in Olyphant since 1972. Her parents were the late Joseph and Louise Bruno. She was a 1969 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale.

Alice retired from Supermarket Services in 2010. She was a member of the Shore Forest Campground, Hop Bottom for 43 years and enjoyed volunteering her time at libraries and food drives. An avid reader, she enjoyed sewing and traveled the world with her husband by cruising. Besides spending time with her family and friends, her favorite thing was being a grandmother. Her grandchildren thought “Mema” made the best pancakes in the world.

She is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy Comonie and Khalid Fuller, and April Comonie and Darren Regula; grandchildren, Khaya Fuller, Gabriel Comonie Fuller, Devon Hill and Donovan Hill, all of Olyphant; a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Robert Peterka; a brother, Thomas Bruno; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob and Barbara Burda, Paul and Cathy Comonie and Joe Galea; and many cousins, nephews and nieces, including Gina Comonie, niece/daughter.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Maria Comonie; a brother, Joseph Bruno Jr.; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Comonie Galea; and a brother-in-law, Geno Comonie.

A blessing service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home Inc., 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant. Fr. Scott P. Sterowski, pastor of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church will preside. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
