James McGarry

James McGarry, 31, of Scranton, died on Friday at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. Born in Scranton, he resided in Forest City most of his life before moving to Scranton a few months ago. He is the son and stepson of Elaine C. and James C. Smallacombe, Jermyn. He was a 1991 graduate of Mountain View High School and received a certificate for Automotive Mechanics from Montrose Vo-technical School. He was also a graduate of Johnson Technical School with an associates’ degree in Electrical Science. He served with the U.S. Army for 4 years having spent one year in Korea. He was part of the 187th 10th Mountain Division from Ft. Drum, NY and was the recipient of marksmanship awards. He was employed by Dynamic Molding, Olyphant and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is also survived by four brothers, John Kretch of Long Island, NY, Jeff Kretch of Lake Worth, Florida, Joseph McGarry of Scranton and Robert McGarry of Clarks Summit; two sisters, Renee McGarry of Hazelton and Jean McGarry of Scranton; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert McGarry, a sister, Tina Marie Nash and maternal grandparents, Anthony and Ann Koscuik. A blessing service will be held at 9:30AM on Tuesday, from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. The Reverend Phillip J. Sladicka, St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant will preside. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely. Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM at the funeral home. Christian Wake Services will be held during this time.
