Andrew Cucura

March 31, 1929 — December 12, 2005

Andrew Cucura, 76, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died on Monday at home after an illness.  His wife is the former Nadia D. Swallow.  They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on February 16th.Born in Peckville, he was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Fedorchak Cucura.  He was a 1948 graduate of Olyphant High School and was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church, Olyphant.An Army veteran of the Korean War, he received the Korean War Service medal.  He was a member of American Legion Raymond Henry Post 327, Olyphant and received a 50 year member certificate.  He was also a member of Shopa-Davey Post 6082, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Peckville.Before his retirement in 1991, he worked for Lackawanna Housing Authority.  He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Monticello, was an avid Eagles fan and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities.He is survived by 4 daughters: Laurie Cole and husband, Buddy, Marcia Demian and husband, Dr. Nicholas, all of Olyphant; Renee Martino of Dickson City and Kerri Mazur and husband, Bruce of Olyphant; 2 sons: Andrew and Jeffrey, both of Olyphant; 6 grandchildren: Breanne Cole, Nicholas and Lucas Demian, Dominique Martino and Rachel and Vanessa Mazur; 1 sister: Rose Rutsky, Olyphant; several nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Dora Pish, Mildred Snitzer and Betty Taylor and 2 brothers: Walter and Joseph Cucura.Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 9AM from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Divine Liturgy will follow at 9:30AM at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Greek Catholic Church, River St., Olyphant.  Msgr. Stephen Hrynuck, pastor will preside. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.  Military services will be held by the American Legion.Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8PM at the funeral home.  Parastas will be held at 7PM.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to: Southerncare Hospice, 851 Commerce Blvd., Suites 101 and 102, Dickson City, PA 18519.
