James T Kane

Dr. James T. Kane, 81, of Olyphant, died Saturday morning at home. He and his wife, the former Ann Durkin, would have celebrated their 49th anniversary on February 27th.Born in Pittston, he resided in Olyphant for the last 48 years. Son-of-the-late Paul and Mary Burke Kane, he was a graduate of Pittston High School. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Penn State College and King’s College and his graduate studies at Temple University, School of Podiatry. He was in private practice in Pittston for 45 years and was a member of the PA State Podiatry Association. After retirement, he worked as an usher at PNC Field, Moosic.An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of: St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant; Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and received their W. Francis Swingle Irishman of the Year Award in 1994 and also served in 1962 as their President and held other offices over the years; and Knights of Columbus Pres. JFK Council 372, Pittston and 4th Degree Assembly #948, Pittston.He was an avid sports fan who coached basketball in his earlier years.He is survived by three daughters: Mary Kane, Portland, Oregon, Kerry and husband, John Muse, Dover, MA, and Katie and husband, Jeremy Murphy, Darien, CT; two sons: Jim and wife, Theresa, Shavertown and Owen and wife, Paige, Hingham, MA; 4 sisters: Molly and Genevieve Kane, both of W. Pittston, Carol Wilkinson, Amsterdam, NY, Ellin Pahl, W. Pittston; 8 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Kane and a sister Kathleen Lombardo.The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware Avenue, Olyphant. Msgr. Francis Callahan of St. Theresa’s Church, Wilkes-Barre and Rev. Thomas M. Muldowney, pastor, will co-officiate.
