Rosemary Eileen Griswold

Rosemary Eileen Griswold, 83, passed away peacefully at Moses Taylor Hospital on Thursday, July 9, 2009 after an extended illness. Her husband of 57 years is John “Jack” Archie Griswold, Jr. whom she dearly loved.Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Montford Page Meader and Antoinette Green Meader. She was a graduate of Saint Mary’s Institute, Amsterdam, Class of 1943. Prior to her retirement, she was the executive secretary for the Graduate and Special Education Departments at Marywood University. She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Church, Scranton.A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, all who met her knew of her love for family, zest for life, and wonderful sense of humor. She was fond of reading a good mystery, working crossword puzzles, spending afternoons on her front porch surrounded by pansies, taking walks on the uneven sidewalks of Green Ridge and taking day trips to anywhere.Rosemary is survived by her daughters, Patricia Marie Poulin, Scranton; Jacqueline Page Weitman, Fisher’s Hill, Va.; and Sharon Teresa Griswold, Stroudsburg. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tia Lane Kavulich, Kara Rose Kavulich, Jonathan Griswold Weitman, Cody Allan Griswold, Cassidy Page Weitman, and Lora Ann Poulin and her great-grandchildren, Darrius Anthoni Pantophlet and Hunter Robert Elliott.She was preceded in death by her first daughter, Margaret Ann Griswold.A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009 at St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton.Interment will be at a later date at Farview Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Meals on Wheels of NEPA, 541 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, PA, 18509 or visit:  http://www.epartnersingiving.com/rosemaryeileengriswold
